原來 MobileMe 不是即時 push 通知服務

Apple’s MobileMe - the successor of .Mac, silently changed description of their offered services. You remember the advertisement “Exchange for the Rest of us”? Now Apple decided to remove the notion “Push-Service” of MobileMe and replaced it with the notion “Synchronization”.
Instead of being pushed instantly, data will now be synchronized every 15 minutes. That simply is not a push-service. Update: an instant sync will still be possible when using an iPhone or an iPod Touch. The price will remain the same (at least) in Europe: 80€/year.

意思是說Apple決定移除廣告中聲明的"Push-Service"字眼, 要改成"Synchronization"即同步的意思. MobileMe 的同步服務是每15分鐘更新一次.

現在的確是15分鐘更新一次

不知道是為了甚麼原因改成這樣，也許是因為資料太龐大，使用者太多了吧

全世界，就算最大的企業，用exchange來push，也不可能一次push一百萬個人的資料吧

想到就恐怖

靜觀其變吧

照我收到的.me系統信:

".....So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word "push" until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too."

Instant push service 現在應該只在iPhone端可達成，PCs和Macs端的 Instant push service 可能要一段時間，等系統Update吧！！

對. 如果公司有自己的blackberry server那速度就會很快. 不過如果要利用電訊供應商的blackberry server, 那就做不到instantly啦. 電訊供應商的blackberry server要先到公司EX Server取得郵件, 然後再push到blackberry...

I don't really get it, what difference between "Push mail" and "Synchronization". even though mobile me use synchronization tech, it still go through telecom service provider right? if so, then what it's different from push mail??????/

hotmail = pull when you login then you see new mail, so mobileme email = push to your device when you got an email.
