SpinCalc 1.0

Category: Education
Price: $1.99 (iTunes)

Description:

SpinCalc™ is a unique children's calculator that feels like a game, but teaches children what arithmetic really means. Even young kids can enter the numbers by simply spinning the wheels, and then see four different calculations at once. For example, if the wheels are set to 30 and 5, you'll see:
•Addition: 30 + 5 = 35
•Subtraction: 30 - 5 = 25
•Multiplication: 30 x 5 = 150
•Division: 30 ÷ 5 = 6

This calculator has no keyboard - just two wheels to spin, which makes it fun for kids (and addictive for adults).

Dots TV™:
SpinCalc is fun to use, but the educational value comes from "Dots TV", shown in the screen shots below. The TV channels show little boxes that illustrate the actual results of a calculation. For example:
•Addition TV shows 35 dots for "30 + 5"
•Subtraction TV shows 3 green dots for "15 - 12", but 8 red dots for "1 - 9".
•Multiplication TV shows 60 dots (5 rows of 12 dots each) for "5 x 12".

Multiplication tables come alive with Multiplication TV. Where else can your child actually see the results of 9 x 12 as 108 little boxes? Do you really know how big 2,000 is? Multiply 40 x 50, and see 2,000 dots appear on the screen.

Simple For Young Children:
You can simplify SpinCalc for young kids by turning off various features, including:
•Addition
•Subtraction
•Multiplication, or
•Division
•Zero (so only numbers from 1 to 50 appear on a wheel)

The wheels can be set to go to 10, or all the way to 50.

For really young children, you can limit SpinCalc to adding numbers from 1 to 10. For older kids, you can show all four operations, using all the numbers from 0 to 50.
