Description:Originally written to mark the Silver Jubilee of the Celtic Football Club's finest hour, “A SEASON IN THE SUN” traces the phenomenal 1966/67 campaign, which culminated in the historic first ever European Cup win for a British club – a triumph that spawned the legendary Lisbon Lions.
What Celtic achieved in the Portuguese capital on 25th May 1967 broke the mould of European football for ever.
This classic book (a MUST read for all Celtic fans) charts the course of that “Wonder Year” month by month, tracing Celtic's remorseless progress on all fronts.
Set against a fascinating backdrop of the sporting, social, political and cultural flavour of the times, the story is sandwiched between a scene-setting chapter on the inspirational pre-season tour of North America and an intriguing Appendix focusing on Celtic's remarkable Epic Victories.
Every club has a potential future; but what truly matters in football is present reality – and history, which is the lifeblood of dreams. The past can be a comfort when times are not so good - and the inspiration for the fulfilment of that shared potential.
Not every club is blessed with a glorious history, so those that are must cherish it. No club is more bountifully blessed than “THE CELTIC”!
JOHN TRAYNOR and TONY GRIFFIN are full cousins with a lifelong passion for Celtic. John was born and bred in the little North Lanarkshire town of Shotts, where he has lived all his life. Tony hails from the Pollokshields district of Glasgow; but has been based in Aberdeenshire since 1980, interrupted by a two-year stay in Paris in the mid 1990s.
Graduates of the University of Strathclyde and The Open University respectively, the pair have written widely about Celtic in both the printed and electronic media; but “A SEASON IN THE SUN” is arguably their major contribution to the club's rich historical library.
