We are the world 這首歌五、六年級生，一定都可以琅琅上口的一首歌
隨這這幾天的Michael Jackson辭世的消息，而再次浮出水面了讓大家來了解這中間的偉大故事
這個故事要回朔到1984年，當時非洲衣索匹亞等地區的人民，因為長期處予饑荒與營養不良而死亡，所以英國歌手Phil Collins在耶誕節的前夕提出這個構想，由Bob Geldof擔任召集人，邀請數十位當紅藝人以「Band Aid」為名共同灌錄單曲義賣，而將義賣所得援助非洲難民，其中的單曲「Do they know it's Chrismas?」（他們知道現在是耶誕節嗎？）這首歌就這樣誕生了，立即引起全世界的共鳴，光是英國美國兩地就販賣出了將近320萬張唱片
英國歌壇都如此挺身而出，當然美國歌壇當然也想出一分心力，由歌手Harry Belafonte提出建議，之後獲得很多「大牌」歌手的鼎力支持，真的，你知道這個故事、或是看過影片，你就知道這裡面的歌手，都是80年代，引領全世界音樂潮流的頂尖歌手中的頂尖歌手，真的是Best of the Best，然後由Quincy Jones擔任製作人，在1985年2月28日，由45位當紅歌手聚集於洛杉磯的錄音室，共同錄下了這首We are the world（四海一家）的義賣單曲
We are the world 這首歌是由Lionel Richie （聽過Endless Love吧？）與Michael Jackson合寫，兩個人花了四天的時間寫曲，一開始，是由Lionel Richie先完成一部分，然後Michael看到之後，靈感如潮水般湧來，一個晚上，就把全曲寫完，接著他們花費了「兩個半小時」作詞，為了希望能夠普遍的推廣這首歌，所以歌詞也力求簡單易學
果然單曲推出之後，受歡迎的程度遠遠超過想像，幾週之內就賣掉了八百萬張...
大家要知道，寫曲、填詞，都不是簡單的事情
接著還要找來45個歌手願意幫你唱
最後再將這45個歌手的個人風格與特色，灌注其中，又不跑掉流暢性，又能保有原有歌曲的精神，這真的是需要神級的人物如Quincy Jones這個製作人，真的是功不可沒
