Description:An interactive iPhone game for preschool to first-grade aged children to have fun while learning to identify letters and develop spelling skills.
Children are presented with a series of thirty screens, each with a three or four-letter word, an image, a limited (eight uppercase letter) keyboard, and a voice-over saying a word. The object is for the child to type the word using the limited keyboard. Children who are beginning to spell can type the word on their own. Children who can identify letters, but have not yet begun to sequence words enjoy working with an adult calling out the letter they need to find. A gentle “uh-oh” sounds when the wrong letter is selected, allowing trial-and-error without creating frustration. When the entire word is spelled correctly, the achievement elicits the sound of fanfare and applause providing positive feedback, and helping the children to build confidence in their abilities. A“NEXT” button takes them to the next screen.
The screens are presented at random, so that each time a child begins the game they will see a different screen, which keeps the challenge higher. Throughout the screens, all twenty-six letters of the English alphabet are used, so the child will have an opportunity to identify all the letters of the alphabet.
Please note, this application requires audio.
