Yuan Shikai, President of the newly founded republic, proclaimed himself Emperor in 1916 but died soon afterward, but eunuchs continued to be recruited in secret despite the prohibition in the Articles of Favorable Treatment. The author started a second life.

After the founding of New China, The People's Republic of China, the author changed his status, began to work for the government and became a religious cadre.

With a researcher of late Qing history, the author completed this book about his life. As he walked away, his mind was awash with memories of what he had gone through all those years that finally brought him to the Imperial Capital.
