If you are interested in having a talking iPhone, then this a program that you will definitely be interested in.

This program is the first free (to our knowledge) text-to-speech (TTS) program for the iPhone and iTouch (2nd generation) devices that runs natively on the iPhone/iTouch. All of the speech is generated locally on your device.

The voice used in this program is a retro-1980's voice. If you remember using speech synthesizer hardware on a Commodore 64 or TI-99/4a when you were younger, the sound quality is similar.

If the free version of the application is successful, additional more modern voices will be added to Speechify Pro. Voice Synthesis has improved a lot in the past 20-25 years

The free version of the application will have an ad displayed on the bottom of the screen. Speechify Pro (to be developed) will not have this restriction.
