Description:

ConCalc (CONtractor's CALCulator) is a feet, inch, and fraction calculator with triangle solver also included. ConCalc was designed for individuals who frequently perform computations with imperial fractions (draftsmen, estimators, engineers, architects, and or construction personnel).

ConCalc was written by a Computer Scientist who has worked in the drafting/design field for nearly three decades. The objective of the ConCalc was to provide a Foot-inch calculator that would be intuitive, easy to use, and fast. We think that we have achieved our goal. Since most professionals who deal with fractions, also regularly solve triangle problems, ConCalc also solves all types of triangle problems (right triangles, acute, obtuse, etc). Just provide three known values, and the calculator will produce the other three un-supplied values.

Calculator features and description: The calculator has been optimized with multiple input modes and uses iPhone's built in accelerometer to allow the user to enter data with the fewest key stokes possible. Additionally the calculator has decimal and a mm mode to easily convert between units on the fly. The buttons also give a visual colorful feedback which also guide the user to indicate whether a button can be depressed or not (if a button is red, the button cannot be depressed).

The top four buttons allow the user to select from 4 different "modes": FT-IN (foot inch and fractions ), Inch ( inch and fractions), DEC (decimal), and MM (millimeter). The current selected mode will be indicated with a blue button, while the other buttons will indicate a green color (signaling that the button can be depressed). Note, during computations, these buttons will be disabled and turn red until an operation is performed (+, -, =, etc).

Entering input in the FT-IN mode: The input key stokes have been optimized for the fewest key stokes possible and will be equal to the qty of digits that represent the feet, the foot mark, one key for the inch, and one key for the fraction. So for example, 12'-11 15/16" will be entered with 5 key inputs: "1", "2", "FT", "11", and "15/16". Additionally, thirty-seconds of an inch can be entered with the same amount of keystrokes. If the user wishes to access the x/32 buttons, just rotate the calculator in your hand "counterclockwise" (approximately 10 degrees). The x/32" buttons will appear over the x/16th keys. If the user just wants x/16, no rotation is required. The x/32 keys will only appear after the foot and inch keys have already been entered (when the /16 keys are appearing).

Triangle Calculator View: Solving triangles

All triangle solution input is taken from the calculator through the storage buttons. The user is required to provide three of the six parts (two for a right triangle: the third angle would be set to 90 degrees) which make up a triangle. The input to this calculator is through the Calculator view: using the STO key. Data in the first text field is stored using STO 1, the second STO 2, and the third using STO 3. Once the user has entered the three inputs, the user is required to assign a side or angle to each value. After this step is performed, the user can select the "Solve Triangle" button.

Step 1: Enter three pieces of data using the STO key (calculator view)
Step 2: Assign a side or angle (angles are always decimal degrees) to each piece of data (using the selector buttons)
Step 3: Press "Solve Triangle"
Step 4: View results.

Note: The format of the output is determined by the current mode (indicated by the blue button on the calculator). For example, if the mode is decimal, the output will be decimal. If the mode is FT-IN, then the output will be FT-IN. Angles are always output as decimal degrees. There are cases when two triangles (acute & obtuse) exist for the same input. One triangle output shall be obtained and the resulting ACUTE triangle will be output.
