佛顶尊胜陀罗尼是现世业报大灾难来临时，用来救急的，本是善住天子知道自己很快要没有福报——要墮畜生道的时侯求佛陀讲的，主要用以超度亡灵或者帮助末法时期人往生的，在这方面非常有效、圆融。
佛顶尊胜陀罗尼经云：佛告帝释言．此呪名净除一切恶道佛顶尊胜陀罗尼.能除一切罪业等障．能破一切秽恶道苦。此陀罗尼．八十八河沙俱胝百千诸佛同共宣说．随喜受持．大如来智印印之。


若人须臾得闻此陀罗尼．千劫以来．积造恶业重障．应受种种流转生死．地狱.饿鬼．畜生……乃至蚁子之身．更不重受。即得转生诸佛如来．一生补处菩萨．同会处生。 或得豪贵最胜家生．乃至得到菩提道场最胜之处．皆由赞美此呪功德。


若人书写此陀罗尼．安高幢上．或安楼上．或安塔中。有人或见或近．其影映身．或尘落身。所有罪业．皆悉消灭。诸飞鸟畜生含灵之类．闻此陀罗尼．一经于耳．尽此一身．更不复受。若人遇大恶病．闻此陀罗尼．即得永离。一切诸病．亦得消灭。


以土一把．诵此陀罗尼二十一遍．散亡者骨上．即得生天。佛言．若人能日日诵此陀罗尼二十一遍．应消一切世间广大供养．舍身往生极乐世界。若常诵念．得大涅槃．复增寿命．受胜快乐。舍此身已．即得往生种种微妙诸佛刹土．常与诸佛俱会一处。一切如来恒为演说微妙之义．一切世尊即授其记．身光照耀一切佛刹土。


佛顶最胜陀罗尼经云．持此呪者．悉能除灭百千劫中一切罪业。所生之处．常遇诸佛。乃至获得无上菩提。若有命短．求长寿者．或有病苦．求除愈者。皆当以彼月十五日．洗浴清净．着新洁衣。又当受持八戒斋法．然后诵此大陀罗尼．满足千遍．当获安乐．增其寿命。所有病苦．皆得除愈。诸恶业报．悉灭无余。


净除业障经云．若临终时．念此陀罗尼者．即得往生诸佛国土。若有四生众生．一闻是陀罗尼者．现生一期．更无他疾。诸苦恼事．不复重受
