Description:PanoTool turns an iPhone or iPod touch into a DSLR camera inclinometer for taking panoramas with wide angle lenses. Simple audio feedback helps guide you to the targets set for your camera's angle of pitch and angle of roll.
Accurate tilt positioning makes it possible to shoot multirow panoramas up to 4 rows deep without a tripod and with suitable lenses and software 360º x 180º panoramas and projections can be made.
With your SLR camera in portrait position the iPhone is held against the flat bottom of the camera using velcro to prevent slipping. It is also possible to use PanoTool with compact digital cameras and here only a couple of rubber bands and a piece of cardboard packing are needed.
PanoTool comes together with PanoCalc a field of view based calculator to help you plan the numbers and directions of pictures needed to make panoramas with rectilinear lenses. PanoCalc helps you calculate the number of pictures per row and the total area covered by up to 4 rows of pictures. It also provides calculations for handling zeniths and nadirs.
Whilst fisheye lenses are ideal for spherical panoramas and PanoTool was initially developed with these in mind, please note that PanoCalc only offers calculations for ordinary rectilinear lenses.
PanoTool is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch.
