The line between hell and airport blurred hours before the intercom politely announced your connection had to make an emergency water landing. Your stomach is telling you dinner was wrapped in foil during the Carter administration. The real problem is Glenn and Stan. One seat left in the gate and you get stuck between these blathering road warriors who are in the third hour of amusing themselves by guessing which fellow travelers are most likely terrorists or carriers of the dreaded swine flu virus. You would have told them to shut up hours ago but you were raised better.

Good thing you have the Swine Flute app. Sizing the boys up, you select the Potbelly Waltz as the song most likely to shut their traps. Applying your fingers carefully to holes on Swiny’s back, notes issue from his jiggling body. Twang his tail and thump his head for that extra exclamation of fun. This is no toy. In your hands, an instrument solos over that grooving rhythm section. Soon the gate denizens are tapping and grinning. You wonder briefly if your music or Glenn and Stans’ silence is the reason for the smiles. No time to ask now as you break into an improvisation punctuated by Armpit Farts.
